📝 2025 Barnes County Spelling Bee Results! 🏆 The 2025 Barnes County Spelling Bee took place on Monday, February 3, at 1 PM in the Hi-Liner Activity Center, featuring top spellers from grades 5-8 across Barnes County. Students from Barnes County North, Maple Valley, St. Catherine’s, Washington Elementary, and Valley City Junior High competed in three challenging rounds: written, vocabulary, and oral. 🏅 Barnes County Spelling Bee Champion: Theresa Peterson (Maple Valley) 🥈 Runner-Up: John Oakland (Valley City Junior High) Both will represent Barnes County at the State Spelling Bee at the Bismarck Event Center on March 17! 🤖 Valley City Robotics Dominates the Red River Valley Tournament! 🏆 Valley City VEX IQ Robotics competed against 60 teams at the Red River Valley VEX IQ Robotics Tournament on Saturday—and what a performance! The Teamwork Challenge finals were intense, with the score to beat set at 49 points early on. Teams 58072D Battle Bots and 58072J Organized Chaos gave their all, but it was the top-ranked teams, 58072B Robo-Ducks and 94605A MaxIQ, who stole the show with an incredible 82 points—the highest teamwork score of the season! 🎉 🏅 Teamwork Challenge Award: Robo-Ducks 📓 Design Award: Organized Chaos, recognized for their exceptional Engineering Design Journal and interviewing skills Next up, teams head to Grand Forks on Friday, January 31, for their final regular season tournament before State. 🎤 VCHS Poetry Out Loud Competition Recap Valley City High School hosted its 6th annual Poetry Out Loud competition on Tuesday, January 21. Poetry Out Loud is a national program that inspires high school students to read, analyze, memorize, and recite poetry. This year, two VCHS seniors, Leah Hochhalter and Ada Gilbertson, advanced from their classroom rounds in dual-credit public speaking last fall and dedicated extra effort to compete for the title of school champion. On the VCHS theater stage, both contestants recited two poems selected from over 1,100 options. Their performances were evaluated by volunteer judges from the VCSU English Club. 🎉 Congratulations to Leah Hochhalter, who was named the VCHS School Champion! Leah will advance to the state-level competition at the Heritage Center in Bismarck on March 3, 2025, for a chance to compete at Nationals in Washington, D.C. 👏 A big shout-out to both Leah and Ada for their outstanding recitations.
