School Safety Week | October 5–9
Valley City Public Schools is recognizing School Safety Week 2026 this week! Throughout the week, our students and staff will participate in safety drills and educational activities designed to help everyone know how to respond in an emergency.
Here are a few of the activities planned:
🔥 Fire Prevention Week – Students and staff will participate in an unannounced fire drill. Our PreK–1st grade students will also have the opportunity to visit with members of the Valley City Fire Department and learn more about fire safety.
🚨 Emergency Preparedness Drills – Our schools will practice fire, evacuation, tornado, and lockdown procedures with assistance from SRO Sean Hagen and our local emergency agencies.
📞 Learning About 911 – Barnes County 911 Dispatch and SRO Hagen will work with our elementary students to teach them when and how to call 911 during an emergency.
👮 Law Enforcement Training – On October 20, the Valley City Police Department will conduct active shooter response training at VCHS. This training will take place after school hours and will not involve students.

Peer to Peer took over the airwaves this morning!
Mrs. Sather and her Peer to Peer class were featured on KOVC this morning, live from Alley Beans!
As part of Alley Beans’ promotion today, Mrs. Sather was invited to share a little about the Peer to Peer program—and explain why she might be considered a bit of a “regular” at the coffee shop.
A BIG thank you to the Hubers and everyone at Alley Beans for the invitation and for always being such proud supporters of VCHS! We love seeing our students, school, and community come together! 💙

This is an awesome shared school and community resource, and we want to make sure it can continue to be available for students, activities, and public uses. Please know that public access is permitted when the facility is open and not reserved for school programs. The gate behind the bleachers in the Hanna Field parking lot will remain open for public access until the snow is the on the ground. If you have any questions about public use at Hanna Field, please contact our district offices.
